Bali has no shortage of tattoo studios. Choosing the right one comes down to a few things you can check before you book.

Here is what to look for, wherever you end up.

1. A portfolio that matches your idea

Every artist has styles they do best. Look for a portfolio with plenty of work in the style you want, whether that is fine line, realism, traditional or something else.

Our own work is sorted by style on the tattoo page. Open any style card to see real examples.

2. Healed work, not just fresh photos

Fresh tattoos photograph well, so it is worth asking to see healed work too.

A studio that is confident in its work will be happy to show you both.

3. A proper consultation

A good studio wants to talk through your idea, size and placement before you commit to anything.

At our studio, you can talk your idea through with our artists before your session.

4. Clear pricing

You should know what you are paying before you sit down. Ask for a quote based on your design, size and placement.

For reference, a small minimalist or black and grey piece at our studio starts at IDR 1 million, and realism or full colour at IDR 3 million.

5. A studio you are comfortable in

Visit before you book. A studio should feel clean, organised and professional, and the team should be happy to answer your questions about how they work.

If a studio is vague or rushes you, take that as your answer.

6. Someone to ask afterwards

You should leave knowing how to look after your new tattoo, and how to reach the studio if you have questions later.

Plan it around your trip

Beach, surf and sun are a big part of most Bali trips. Tell your artist what the rest of your stay looks like so they can advise you on timing.
